Organize Your Strategy – Adding Goals (OKRs)

Learn how to add Goals (OKRs) manually or with ClearPoint AI, add key results, and link goals to scorecard elements.

Written by Ted Jackson

Goals (OKRs) in ClearPoint give your team a structured way to set, track, and align Objectives and Key Results across individuals, departments, and scorecards. This article walks through how to add goals manually or with the help of ClearPoint AI.

What Are Goals (OKRs)?

OKRs stand for Objectives and Key Results. An Objective is a qualitative, aspirational goal — what you want to achieve. Key Results are the measurable outcomes that tell you whether you've achieved it.

In ClearPoint, Goals can be assigned to individuals, linked to scorecard elements, and viewed by individual, manager, department, or scorecard — making it easy to see how personal goals connect to organizational strategy.

Adding a Goal Manually

  1. From the left navigation, click Goals.

  2. Click My Goals (or navigate to By Individual if adding a goal for someone else).

  3. Click the dropdown arrow in the top-right corner and select Add Goal.

  1. In the Goal drawer, fill in:

    • Name — a clear, aspirational objective (e.g., Increase customer satisfaction by 15% by EOY)

    • Owner — the person responsible for this goal

    • Manager — the owner's direct manager (used for By Manager views)

    • Period — the reporting period this goal applies to

    • Visibility — control who can see this goal (e.g., Owner Only, Manager, Everyone)

  2. Click Save.

Adding Key Results

After saving the goal, add measurable Key Results to define what success looks like.

  1. Navigate to the Key Results tab (you'll be prompted to save first if you haven't).

  2. Click the Plus (+) icon.

  3. Enter a Key Result Name (e.g., Achieve an average CSAT score of 85% month over month).

  4. Select a Data Type (e.g., Percentage, Number).

  5. Set a Start value and a Target.

  6. Click Save.

Repeat to add as many key results as needed. Each key result contributes to overall goal progress.

Linking a Goal to Scorecard Elements

Linking a goal to a scorecard element — such as a Measure or Objective — connects your personal OKRs to your organization's broader strategy.

  1. Navigate to the Links tab of the goal.

  2. Click the Link icon.

  3. Select the Scorecard and Link Type.

  4. Check the box next to the element(s) you want to link.

  5. Click Save.

Goal Visibility Settings

Visibility controls who can see a goal. To update it after creation:

  1. Click the Options menu (⋮) on the goal row and select Edit Goal.

  2. Navigate to the Goal tab.

  3. Use the Visibility dropdown to choose your preferred setting.

  4. Click Save.

💡 The Options menu (⋮) only appears on goal rows you are allowed to change. If you do not see it, your access level does not permit editing that goal — see Updating OKRs.
