Chart legends in ClearPoint identify the different data series displayed in a chart. You can easily enable or disable legends, adjust their position, and use them to dynamically show or hide series.
This article also covers how to format Y-axes and use a secondary axis to visualize data series with different units or scales.
Adding or Removing a Legend
From the left navigation, click Elements.
Select Measures.
Open the Measure you want to edit (e.g., Revenue).
Double click on the Chart you want to edit.
Go to the Chart tab.
Under Show Legend, select Enabled or Disabled.
(Optional) Enter a custom Chart Title for your legend (e.g., Variance).
Choose the Legend Position (e.g., Top, Bottom, Left, Right).
Click Save.
💡 Legends help users quickly identify which series or metrics are being represented in your chart.
Using the Legend to Dynamically Hide or Show Series
Legends in ClearPoint are interactive — clicking on a legend label toggles that series on or off in the chart view.
Open the chart in the Measure’s Detail Page or within a dashboard.
Click the Series Title in the legend to hide or show that series.
💡 Use this feature during meetings or presentations to focus attention on specific data trends.
Formatting the Y-Axis
Each chart automatically calculates axis ranges based on the series data, but you can customize Y-axis settings for greater control and clarity.
Navigate to the Y-Axis tab.
Configure the following settings:
Y-Axis Title – Add a descriptive label for your axis (e.g., Revenue in Millions).
Min Value / Max Value – Enter custom values, or leave blank for automatic calculation.
Left Axis Data Type – Choose a number format independent of your series (e.g., Currency, Percentage).
Click Save.
💡 Customizing the Y-axis helps make charts clearer, especially when comparing data across different metrics.
